Road Safety Information
Do you know you’re four times more likely to have a fatal fatigue crash if you’re driving between 10pm and dawn? That’s because your body’s circadian rhythms are programming you to sleep.
Driving while sleep deprived, especially late at night and at dawn, increases the risk of having a ‘microsleep’ and losing control of your vehicle. If you fall into a microsleep and nod off at 100 km/h, you’ll travel 100 metres in just four seconds, unconscious.
Don’t ignore the early warning signs of fatigue:
- Yawning
- Poor concentration
- Tired eyes
- Restlessness
- Drowsiness
- Slow reactions
- Boredom
- Oversteering

Best Time to Visit
Narrabri has fine weather for most of the year round. With average maximum temperatures ranging from 34.9C in January to 18.1C in July.
One thing that visitors remark about is the big wide horizons and spectacular sunsets. As the sun sets in the west you can know that the country is almost dead flat heading due west. To the east Narrabri is lucky to have an incredible Nandewar Ranges which are great to visit throughout the year but can be chilly in winter so bring a warmer clothes.
In summer (December to February) the days can be hot and dry often hitting temperatures of over 40C. However, there are plenty of places around the area to cool off including the great local aquatic centre (including olympic size swimming pool and heated indoor pool along with extensive grounds and BBQ facilities), visiting the famous Mt Kaputar National Park (where the temperatures towards the summit can be up to 10 degrees lower than Narrabri) or have a beverage at one of the many air conditioned pubs, cafes and shops throughout the town.
Winter months are much cooler with great sunny warm days and chilly nights. Many visitors to Narrabri love escaping to the sunny north west of NSW. Most restaurants and pubs serve hearty meals and some have open fire places and beer gardens. Narrabri is renowned as a sporty town and sportier visitors enjoy playing golf, lawn bowls, cycling, swimming, horse sports, shooting and the many other activities that are available.
Both spring and autumn are delightful. Days and nights are mild.
